Saffron is a delicate spice taken from the stigma of the saffron crocus. In ayurvedic medicine, it is known to pacify all three doshas - vata, pitta, and kapha (air, fire, earth/water). It is a spice that has been prized for 100s of years as a stress-reducer. This dietary supplement provides safranal and crocin, two constituents that moderate the brain's receptors for seratonin. Safranal is primarily responsible for saffron's unique, delicate aroma; it may be a by-product of zeaxanthin (valuable carotenoid for vision). Crocin is primarily responsible for the golden-red color of saffron, and is another valuable antioxidant with possible antidepressant properties (as demonstrated in pilot studies in lab animals and humans).
